TREATMENT OF WOUNDS / BURNS

The term ‘trauma’ refers to any rupture of the skin and therefore its protective function. It occurs after some kind of injury (surgery, chemical substances, heat, friction, pressure) or as a result of an illness (venous ulcer, carcinomas etc.). Trauma prevention and management is often a great challenge, especially in cases where there are other aggravating factors (comorbidity, mobility, nutrition etc.) that may increase the risk of new wounds or prolong the healing of existing ones. A trauma can be described in various ways based on its aetiology, its anatomical location, whether it is acute or chronic, the method of closure, the symptomatology presented, or even the predominant type of tissue involved.
