Parenteral feeding is the procedure during which a special solution is injected through an intravenous catheter. Apart from the hospital, parenteral nutrition can, also, be administered at home by specialised personnel (Home Parenteral Nutrition).

The administration of parenteral nutrition may take place at the patient’s home or place of residence. The specific plan to be followed is designed and supervised by a clinical dietitian who, in cooperation with our specialised team of nurses, provides 24-hour nutritional support with the use of a special tube to the people who require parenteral nutrition.

(As a rule), the service is provided to the patient on the same day. In some cases, the provision of the service may depend on the timetable of the service responsible for preparing the special solution.

The expected duration of the administration of parenteral nutrition varies depending on several factors such the patient’s cooperation with the nurse. It usually lasts a few minutes. Parenteral administration in generally easy, fast and responsibly performed by experienced nurses. Good quality care is always provided to the patient.

Parenteral nutrition is primarily in the best interest of the patient and always administered under the instructions of the treating physician. Under no circumstances will unnecessary discomfort be caused to the patient, other than that of the inherent discomfort that may occur.
